Formed in October 2011 the company has its roots in Moritex Europe Ltd. (MEL) the UK subsidiary of Moritex Corporation in Japan.
Moritex is a world leader in the field of Machine Vision and Industrial Imaging systems. Moritex set up its first European office in 1989 in Cambridge, UK and staff recruited then continue to work for Vision Science Ltd. (VSL).
VSL therefore embodies over 20 years experience in Industrial Imaging systems sales and development. It continues to utilise that experience in the development of innovative, state of the art new products following on from the success of the Scopeman products first introduced in the 1990's.
VSL is also the home of the PalmScope product. Over 10 years ago MEL identified a gap in the market for a portable image capture device to compliment endoscopes and pipe inspection systems which typically are field based and require portability and freedom from mains supplies. Being mainly for industrial applications they also needed to be secure and robust. Suitable products tended to be from the consumer market using either floppy disc (Sony), VCR or more recently DVR (hard disk drive) storage technology. Each of these solutions had limitations in terms of ruggedness, portability and longevity (consumer products can change within 1 year) which limited their appeal to industrial customers. The PalmScope was one of the first products to address all these issues with rugged, battery powered memory card storage. Also, the proof of its longevity lies in the fact its still in production today after over 10 years with over 4,500pcs sold to date all over the world.
VSL has maintained its links with Moritex Corporation and is now the European Distributor for Moritex Industrial Inspection products.
